Sounds good to me: the protocol stuff is not urgent and backward
compatibility will be preserved.

I'd just like Marcin to confirm that this can work for him. His
initial request is the whole point of this discussion.

Without a precise use case, we can still include the script in our
scripts directory but I'm not sure how we should hook it to a
protocol: for example, should start/stop times be relative or
absolute? a random choice would likely result in nobody using it...

BTW I was also thinking of taking this feature request into account:
http://dev.sourcefabric.org/browse/LS-468 but it sounds like it has
nothing to do with cutting files, it's only about metadata insertion.
