As you point out correctly, this very long transition is not
appropriate at all times. Removing the blank can make sense. Instead
of setting it to 0 you could simply replace the sequence with the
inner fade.initial.

But really the only way to craft your transitions is to experiment:
you'd be much more productive with a local installation of liquidsoap
to play with, instead of asking questions here and testing on your
server. One of the great things about learning with computer tools is
instant feedback, it's worth another install!
