Unfortunately I cannot reproduce. I have tried the following:
def f(m) =
  title = m["title"]
  log("#{json_of(m)}")
  [("title","#{title} (foo)")]
end
s = map_metadata(f,s)

And it works..

Could you show us the logs that you get and maybe a little more about
your script?
