Dear all,
This is also with some excitement that I am proud to announce that the
official liquidsoap 1.0.0~beta2.1-2 Debian package has just been
uploaded to debian unstable/sid!!
This package comes with two features that should be very useful for
you, dear users!
1) Support for dynamic plugin packages:
All optional functionalities in liquidsoap are now shipped in a
separate liquidsoap-plugin-* package. This means that you no longer
have to pull unwanted libraries when installing liquidsoap on your
server! Simply install the liquidsoap package and cherry-pick the
functionalities you want to play with!
The official package recommends some of those plugins, however, and
they will be intalled by default (recommended package are installed by
default in Debian, but you can turn this off or remove those packages
afterwards..). These recommended plugins are:
liquidsoap-plugin-mad
liquidsoap-plugin-taglib
liquidsoap-plugin-vorbis
liquidsoap-plugin-flac
liquidsoap-plugin-voaacenc
liquidsoap-plugin-icecast
liquidsoap-plugin-faad
liquidsoap-plugin-pulseaudio
These functionalities should provide a fairly functional default
liquidsoap for most users!
If you want more plugins, search for the liquidsoap-plugin-* packages
and install them!
One a plugin is installed, it should be automatically detected and
loaded by liquidsoap and you should see log lines like:
2011/07/07 11:39:31 [dynamic.loader:2] Loaded plugin file
/usr/lib/liquidsoap/1.0.0-beta2.1/plugins/alsa.cmxs.
Now, let's move to the second and, perhaps, even more exciting new feature :)
2) Dynamic loading of lame and aacplus encoders
Starting with 1.0.0~beta2.1-2, liquidsoap has provided by the official
debian package is now able to dynamically load the lame (MP3) and
aacplus (AAC+/HE-AAC) encoders. This means that you should no longer
have to recompile liquidsoap just to get mp3 or AAC+ encoding
functionalities!
You can enable those encoders in two different ways:
* Compile and install locally one of ocaml-{lame,aacplus}
* Install one of the lib{lame,aacplus}-ocaml-dynlink for debian-multimedia.
In other words, in order to have a functional mp3 encoding using the
official debian packages, all you need to do is:
1) Add debian-multimedia packages in your /etc/apt/sources.list
2) apt-get update
3) apt-get install liquidsoap liblame-ocaml-dynlink
And voila!
Once everything is setup, you should see log lines in liquidsoap that
look like this:
2011/07/07 11:39:31 [dynamic.loader:3] Loaded dynamic lame encoder
from /usr/lib/ocaml/lame
That's all folks, we hope you enjoy this release and come up with
great use of liquidsoap!
Romain
