First, this might be a bug (we fixed stuff like that recently). Liquidsoap should also completely exit after a shutdown(). It'd be interesting to see the logs. Now, for the main issue: if all you need is reloading a playlist, no need to look into dynamic source creation and shutdown. What do you mean by reloading the stream? It suffices to reload the list of files of the current playlist() operator without changing it. This is done via the <playlist_id>.reload server command. Be patient when you experiment with this: there might be a one-or-two-songs lag before the reload is taken into account, although I believe it should be instantaneous with default settings and recent (beta) liquidsoap.
