Aha! Looks like something more interesting is happening.

Just prior to sending the stream out to icecast, I'm passing it through
a map_metadata which generates the stream's metadata by passing the
currently playing filename to an external script (using m["filename"]). It
appears that smooth_add is eating ["filename"] out of the metadata whenever
a jingle is played. The ["title"] and ["artist"] are passed through just
fine.

The question is, why is "filename" removed from the metadata when a jingle
is played? And why is map_metadata called at all if the underlying stream
metadata shouldn't be changing at that point?

All of the data generated in your IT infrastructure is seriously valuable.
Why? It contains a definitive record of application performance, security
threats, fraudulent activity, and more. Splunk takes this data and makes
sense of it. IT sense. And common sense.
