Hi Josh,

First, I want to make sure you follow the protocol: you compile from toplevel 
(the root directory of the repository, or a full tarball), where both PACKAGES 
and configure are present. If you run liquidsoap/configure, it won't lookup 
PACKAGES in the parent directory.

If you are running things this way, then the only way liquidsoap's configure 
detects a library is if it's installed system-wide. It's often a bad idea to 
install the caml libraries and compile liquidsoap (and libs) from source, so I 
advise to uninstall all libXXX-ocaml-dev (you don't need them to install the 
liquidsoap ubuntu package, btw).
