With findlib_src_install, I get

install: missing file operand
Try `install --help' for more information.

But when I replace findlib_src_install with einstall, it installs
without errors from the ebuild. I had to turn sandbox off, but this is
likely a problem with sandbox, as I run into it occasionally anyway.

I was indeed missing alloc.h. Re-emerging ocaml fixed it.
