I believe this issue should be discussed on the mailing list. There you'll get advice from other people who probably do similar things to you, but without a playlist. If not, we can ask several users what they think of removing the limitation on reloading empty playlists: I'm reluctant to remove it, since it might very well be critical to avoid "missed reloads" for several users.
