The reason we use Silan in Airtime is that we need to know ahead of playout about any leading or trailing silence in files. As we have a schedule calendar, stripping an unknown amount of silence 'on demand' would lead to cumulative error in our calendar timings. If the station does not play out files at fixed times, using Silan might be overkill. Cheers!
