I am still a Liquidsoap n00b, so can't say much about that. However, I assume you are using a lossless format, such as wav or flac, for your produced stuff? There is little practical value in using something already compressed so it can be transcoded again, if not necessary to do so, especially for smaller things like IDs, jingles, promos and the like. Without hearing the resulting audio, or knowing what the source format is, I can't say much more on the subject.
