4) is sort of important.  'which' is a built in linux command.. so if you
got command not found, then I suspect one of us spelled which wrong.  And
since you got the version back, liquidsoap is somewhere in your path.

8) Your answer does not make sense.   You should either get command not
found, or service not found or restart is an invalid parameter.  But I
can't think how you could just get a prompt back.

9) Does not make sense if you spelled everything correctly.  If you
installed liquidsoap via apt-get in Jessie and it used to run, it puts the
executable as /usr/bin/liquidsoap.  So there should be one there, even if
it is the old version. And if your copy worked, there should be the new
version there.  You can try doing an ls of the full usr/bin directory and
double check.

Did you happen to UNINSTALL liquidsoap via apt?

Again.. having a copy of the console log would be very helpful to get this
resolved.
