Ok I got the say protocol to work by installing festival and sox.
The only problem: it really sounds awful.
Is there any options to get a better speech synthesis? Maybe changes to the
festival config or voicing? Maybe another speech generator that sounds better?
I cannot believe anyone is using festival/sox for a real radio station - the
output isn't very legible at all...
