Here's my point of view: 1.7.1 deprecates 1.7.0, because it is a newer version of the same line (1.7.x). 1.7.0.1 would indicate a hot-fix for a very important issue. Poweroff-issue has normal urgency, not high, because: a) it's only for standalone-sawfish, b) only if you use it and c) there's already a workaround. Tradition: 1.3.5.x there the only four-digit releases, because of only bugs (in .2 and .3 it's been a serious issue), else we released 1.5.1 and 1.6.1 as the first maintenance. That's the reason why I have chosen 1.7.1 in favor of 1.7.0.1. > On Sat, 16 Oct 2010 11:57:17 +0200, Christopher Roy Bratusek wrote: > > Sawfish 1.7.1 will be released next weekend. > > > > If you have something urgent, that needs to be done, write a mail. > > It should be 1.7.0.1 which is 1.7.0 + the poweroff bugfix > only. > > I'm not sure of the current HEAD quality. Well, the issue is fixed, all other changes are tested by me, before committing. > It's not an explicit policy, but from another custom of ours 1.7.0.1 > indicates 1.7.0 is deprecated. If it would be a serious issue, like Sawfish not running, compiling or if data would get lost, then I would agree (in this case the release would have come immediately after the fix). > And if we follow our custom, 1.7.1 would contain more. The custom is basically, x.x.0: major changes, x.x.1: fixes and small changes, x.x.2+: individual. > And it won't hurt at all to release 1.7.0.1. > > Thanks a lot beforehand. > Teika (Teika kazura) Regards, Chris
