Hi birders,
I am planning an independent birding trip to the South Moluccas
covering Tanimbar Islands (Yamdena), Seram and if time permits, a side
trip to Sumba for the hornbill. I'm wondering if anyone has paid
visits to the south Moluccas in recent years and what are the ground
situations like in the region, eg whether if forests can be easily
accessed/are there pristine forests within reach of the main towns
etc. I am particularly keen to know how i can independently access
interior of Seram, particularly Gunung Binaya as well as local
transport costs, like for example the price of taking ojeks in between
birding sites, local buses and vehicle rental prices. Also would be
great if someone can provide access details for the known sites of
Lesser Masked Owls. Look forward to any suggestions and information on
this poorly visited region in Indonesia. Many thanks!
Best regards
Ding Li
