Terms of Reference – Mammalogist
The overall goal is the conservation of priority
orangutan populations as well as other mammals and their habitat in Kalimantan,
specifically in the districts of Ketapang and Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan .
The project purpose is a conservation status review of
the some mammals population in West Kalimantan
to respond to immediate forest conservation plans and to secure critical
habitat through integrating recommendations of this review into the district
spatial plans and forest management plans.
Mammalogist
Undertake HCVF as well as biodiversity surveys in
close coordination with FFI’s HCVF and Biodiversity Leader, and in
collaboration with senior botanist, senior biologist and GIS Officer using
standard methods for biological survey and landscape-level HCVF/Biodiversity
assessment. Collaborate with GIS Officer, spatial planning coordinator and
field project coordinator to provide input to the spatial plan development or
revision of the districts where HCVF/Biodiversity assessment is undertaken.

Detailed job description
· Prepare standard approach and
methodologies for biodiversity surveys – especially mammal survey;
· Undertake mammal survey during
HCVF/biodiversity assessment;
· Prepare scientific reports in
Indonesian, but English report is preferred;
· Provide input to the development
of biodiversity and GIS database; and
· Undertake other tasks assigned by
the Field Project Coordinator and/or FFI Biodiversity Advisor.
Terms of Reference-Botanist
Objective:
Conduct surveys in Kapuas Hulu and Ketapang districts
in Kalimantan Barat to identify orangutan habitat and high conservation value
forest which should be protected from conversion or unsustainable logging. The
aim of the project is to protect HCVF through a district spatial planning
process and partnerships with the private sector (forests and plantation
concessions).

MAIN DUTIES:
* Participate in HCVF and Carbon Inventory assessment;
* Focus on botanical surveys, but support the HCVF survey team on the
overall HCVF and Carbon assessment
* Participate in orang utan surveys, focused on assessment of food
resources for orangutans (fruits & leaves)/ habitat suitability
* Prepare technical survey reports
* Account for field expenses
* Assist in presentation of survey results to government and private
sector partners
* Conduct other teamwork tasks as required to achieve the project goal
* Conduct related surveys on FFI project activities in Ketapang and
Kapuas Hulu and surrounding district on
* HCVF assessment
* Biocarbon assessment

Ketapang conservation project
The overall goal is the conservation of populations of orangutan and other
threatened species and
their habitats in the district of Kapuas
Hulu,West Kalimantan . The project
purpose is to promote the integration of High Conservation Value
(HCV) areas in Ketapang and Kapuas Hulu districts into conservation plans,
district spatial
plans, and plantation management
plans.

Job description
Conduct HCVF, bird, and orangutan field surveys under
the direction of HCVF/Biodiversity Leader and in close collaboration with senior
orangutan scientist and senior biologist using standard methods for orangutan
and bird diversity surveys and landscape-level HCVF assessment. Collaborate
with GIS expert, spatial planning coordinator and team leader to provide input
to the development of the district spatial plan.
