To test my Shepherd mix I used a slightly different trick.  I would put a tennis ball 
in a plastic bag and tie it in there. Then I would cut the handles.  I would toss it 
around the backyard, throwing it underhand, skipping it accross the lawn. She would 
chase it and bring it back.  She loved it!  Unfortunately, my Greyhound will only 
chase it until it stops moving.  He will look at it a moment and then run around the 
yard on his own. ;-)

They are a toy breed, usually about 7-20 pounds, depending on the
individual. Some of them course like mad things, some could care less. They
have a typically "toy" head, more of a roached topline, and a greater
leg-to-length of back ratio than the big greys.

A lure pole works well, indeed.....with less risk of injury than a
full-fledged course.
