Hi
Try and find a vet that understands "sound like a race horse" rather
than the local "wow it's a miracle it walks" vet. Your local coursing
clubs will know if there is anyone in your area. Dr Radcliff is a
godsend! He is nearish Pittsburgh (I haven't used him but many
friends have...)

Then get a work up. A good vet will evaluate the whole dog and tell
you the good (or bad--it's "retired for a reason racer"...) news and
how to wrap the foot if needed...And you will have gained an
invaluable resource!

Hopefully something simple like petroleum jelly will solve your
problems...but the toes are rubbing for a reason!

Good Luck and Welcome to the Insanity!

Ta
Carol who has a whippy with a dislocated toe--luckily it was easy for
the vet to pop back in and she only needs splinting and hand walking
for 3 weeks--then a soft bandage for a few weeks. Of course this was
1 week before an OB trial where I was hoping for the 3rd CD leg...she
was 4th in a large all breed Nov B class last leg. So we wait till
the next cluster of shows! And crate and hand walk and keep the
splint dry and massage....
