I'd dump the Beneful--if it is the same formulation I saw last year 
it is woefully light in protein and fats...I fed BuckEye Pro Bits (26 
protein/18 fat) to everyone from 1 year to 13+. They have shiny, 
glossy coats and just have a beautiful bloom. Since the feed store 
changed dealers I've been trying Diamond 26/18 and 24/20. So far the 
coats and stools look good...my crew (whippet and borzoi) races, 
courses, keeps couches warm and does obedience. They have good 
endurance and speed and the OB crew does well in the ring...And yes 
they shed in the fall and in the spring...but the coats stay 
brilliant. The protein is a good high quality and the old ones do 
well on it.
I don't really supplement except for occasional table scraps...
