Within the Middle Kingdom and based on the charter I obtained in
Northshield, any hound that chases a bag can do so at any event where
coursing is held, that is any such 'dog' can be a member of the coursing
college and is eligible for, in the Middle, an Award of Paws (not sure
what ((if)) Northshield will establish for canine awards for the Gryphon
pack and the coursing college... in the Middle 'rescued' greys only are
eligible for the Huntly Pack. In Northshield I expanded that to include
and period sight hound breed or cross that was a 'rescued' animal...
adopted from shelters, rescue groups etc. The idea of the packs is
partly to promote rescue and I admit that aspect is limited to the
period breeds. But the colleges are open to all and all are WELCOME.
Unfortunately for I'm sure good reason to be accepted at all, the breeds
are more limited re coursing that what it was when Master Baron Gordan
founded coursing in the Middle Kingdom so long ago. \
Please don't hesitate to course. Northshield needs houndmasters and you
need not own a period breed to be one. I cannot run on the field but I
can still teach! I am sorting many things in the next month and hope to
unearth the entire list of e addys for folks interested to some extent
in coursing. I hope you are one of them. The more the merrier! Perhaps
you can think of an alternative basis for the other breeds. The reason
behind simply coursing for me, was always finding interested folks and
thus homes for hounds where there were none before. The last stat I
heard was that there are on average in this country alone 200 hounds
per day destroyed on average. I think it in appropriate for a hound
master to take any official position regarding greyhound racing, and
this allows many walks of folk to set aside their differences and work
together for coursing and rescue irregardless... I will say that there
are responsible breeders who place all their hounds in homes after they
are done working, and there are 'no kill 'tracks so we know it can work
that way too.... The dream has always had room for diversity. It may be
that you could establish a local baronial, shire etc. pack (minimum of
three) that have even more open criteria. That is what Rivenstar has
done. The members of the Huntly or Gryphon packs are period breeds. I
hope that will not discourage anyone in bearing forth the banner for the
Dream!
