Samira - Borzoi's run differently than Greyhounds and IG's. The original idea
was to have a greyhound fun run on Tuesday to find out which greys will/ will
not run for the Queen's Run on Friday, especially since we used to have so many
untried greys. The non-grey Fun Run on Thursday is for ALL of the other
breeds. However, they need to be brought up at different times so that the
Borzoi's will not course the IG's. This is how it has been set up in the past
and this was the intention all along. We have been planning for other breeds
to be present. In addition, each breed is supposed to have 1/2 hour to course
in. For example, IG's from 10 - 10:30, Borzoi's from 10:30 - 11.

If HRM of Ansteorra specifically requests the ONE dog who has special
permission to course on Saturday, I would be agreeable. However, I feel that
we need to keep it Grey's only for the Queen's Run (except for this ONE special
request). The Queen's run is supposedly put on by the Queen of Meridies. We
always send out personal invitations to ALL of the other Queens from HRM
Meridies. This will continue, even when the Gulf Wars land is located in the
Kingdom of Gleann Abhann (Oct. 05). I do realize, however, that not all of the
Meridian Queens have always supported the Coursing. However, the present Queen
of Meridies is VERY interested in Coursing and specifically requested that
Coursing be present at their Coronation. The Queen's Coursing is for the Royal
Packs, which are mainly Greys only in most Kingdoms.

I realize that these views might upset some people.

Subject: [SCA_Coursing] Question for those attending Gulf War

As you know, we will have Borzoi at Gulf War this year. There will
also be a Scottish Deerhound that is not an "official" breed this
year (although we have permission for the breed, and I wouldn't turn
away any others that want to come). The Deerhound is a nationally-
rated mundane coursing hound.

My first question is: at the moment, we have two "fun runs" set up:
one for Greyhounds, one for IG's....although the text for the latter
reads "breeds other than Greyhounds". My own personal inclination is
to include the Borzoi and SD with the Greyhounds, rather than the
IG's. Two reasons...I don't know how used the other dogs are to tiny
dogs, and also their size would be more suited to a course designed
for Greyhounds than to one set-up for IG's.

Secondly, since the Deerhound has been specifically requested by HRM
Ansteorra (the hound is evidently part of Her retinue), I anticipate
that She will want the dog to attend the Queens' Coursing. Now the
Queens' Packs have traditionally been all Greyhounds, but part of our
job is to keep the Queens happy. So, if Ansteorra desires it, should
we allow the Deerhound at the Queens' Coursing? And if we do, what
about the Borzoi, who are owned by the same gentle as the Deerhound?

Personally, I'd allow it, but I've always been a bit of an
iconoclast, and I don't want to step on TOO many toes. After all, HRM
Ansteorra can't do anything to ME....unless she decides to move to
Midrealm. You people I have to live with. <G>
