Um This was the first time in about 15 years...I'd say that 99% of the dogs out there have been trained/practiced to see if they had lure interest. The dog in question was just returned to the lady within the week. I think she was nutz to run her as they hadn't had time for her to settle in, but you know your own animals. She was looking for something familiar and never left the area. Safety tip--they got her back with the old camp out in an open van/tent with crated kennel mates as a lure trick. And dogs will spook, that is the risk you take when you do anything with them. They lost a whippet from the Eastern Specialty--never got it back and that was at a show where the dogs are on lead ... Before that there were 2 saluqis that would take off--jumping the fence that surrounded the field...and I remember a Bozo or two that had little lure interest that jumped out of a fenced field....But these are memorable because they are so rare. More common is the Pharo/IIB that just keeps running the line. Forever. Just go to an East Coast ASFA trial and ask about "Fire, Come" or "Mocha, you are getting sleeeeepy" (a whippet) If you actually do the dreaded T word and practice and train your hound life is generally good! Oh and yes we have continued to use the unfenced site--it is a good site! Me I think the rescue groups that are so restrictive are very cruel--greys with lure interest *live* to run. When I worked at a kennel we had two bitches off the track. One day I got the upper lights finally working and turned them on. When I got the girls to bring them down the hill to the house you would have thought it was Christmas--they thought Lights Action RACING!!!! After all we were parading toward the front field where we raced and coursed. They were sooo crushed that we went into the house. Ta Carol, who has hounds that will go thru the walls to run! ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> What would our lives be like without music, dance, and theater?
