Lady Rowan Houndskeeper, I also have this problem. Doty, my 12 year old grey,
LOVES to course and has knocked people over trying to get to course (she is not
a Lady when coursing is involved). At Gulf Wars I kennel her and we course in
a totally different area. However, if I am at another site, she can see and
hear the machine. I kennel her then, but she is NOT pleased. I realize I am
torturing her and I feel bad, but she has a pinched nerve in her back besides
her age and coursing would not be good for her. However, she enjoys going for
rides in the van and being adored so much at events that it is not fair to
leave her home either. Try putting Wizard in a room where he cannot see or
hear (if that is possible) the coursing machine. If you have a kennel, kennel
him so that he doesn't tear down the door. When you do finish coursing, spend
some special time with him. Unfortunately, getting old is not fair, but we
have to do what is best for the hound. You have my sympathies, as does Wizard.

Unfortunately, Wizard has coursed his last run and will have to make do with
being a chamber hound from now on. He still has the drive to run but since the
vet just put him on the equivalent of doggie morphine twice a week for
arthritis, I'm calling a halt to his fun.
Now can anyone give me advice about how to course one hound without teasing the
other with what he can't do? Don't say just leave the old man at home - I'm
trying to do this in my backyard!
