I know several Borzoi breeders who have top coursing hounds who also are
dual champions in agility, obediance, conformation, and TRACKING!!!
There are several throughout my little Oksana's pedigree, and even
though there is more coursing blood in Tzatiyana's pedigree, her father
is an LCM, CD tittled Borzoi.
Just looking through the latest Borzoi Digest, I see:
-Nickolai Ryndar River Aziza CD JC
-Mandolin-Mielikki The Dance CD SC TDI
- Am/Can Ch Abidjan's Diamond Sabre CD JC TDI
-DC Avalon Jungle Fever SC CD FCH TT
-Ch Amberwinds Fire in the Dark CD SC
-DC Silkenswift Blaze of Chaos CD SC
Then there is a several page article on the Nikolai kennel, Bonnie
Nichols, who has several coursing, conformation, and obediance Borzoi,
including several UDX Borzoi who are dual FCh's.
Obediance has nothing to do with prey drive, but rather pack behavior.
You, the ALPHA, has given your lower-pack member and order to "sit", and
in respect to his ALPHA, he sits. Prey drive is instinct to chase, some
could care less, others want the bunny. Some, like my boy Drumm, have
figured out that "its plastic" and will only course the real thing. He
looks down at the line, goes back to the motor, and waits on it to come
back to him. My Saluki, on the other hand, is too busy flirting with the
human girls and soliciting as many pets as he can get out of them before
I catch him.
As we are often coursing in places that are not fully fenced in, I would
much rather be able to hollar out thier come cue and they come to me
rather than me having to chase down a hound who has no manners or is
darting all over the field
