Jami'a, you really need to come to Gulf War! <G> We do a lot of things for that event that you've mentioned. I just finished mailing out the formal invitations to the Queens' Coursing. I'll be putting small reminder cards in each of their gift bags, as well. We usually have a table set up somewhere in Kennels Lands with books, such as Cummins' "The Hound and the Hawk", a copy of Phoebus' "Book of the Hunt", Branigan's "Adopting the Retired Racing Greyhound". etc. There are several of us that do Greyhound adoption, and we try to have at least contact info from as many different Kingdoms as possible.
We also host a "Meet & Greet" for the populace during the event, invite the Pages' School for a visit, and have a full slate of classes in Kennel Lands, on everything from the history of sighthounds, through choosing a sighthound, to cooking and sewing for one's hound. I'll ask Caitrin if she'll upload the Kennel Lands schedule to the files section here for you to look at. Historically, only Greyhounds & IG's have been allowed at GW, but this year we have managed to expand it to allow Borzoi and Scottish Deerhounds, as well. I'd LOVE to see Salukis make an appearance next year! A few people have tried in the past, but have never been able to get the requisite 4 hounds lined up to come. :( Samira > Another thing I would personally love to see is: 1. Education in > sighthound > ownership for perspective owners, and 2. Rescue group info distributed > wherever we have events. I always have tons of people wanting Salukis > after seeing > mine, and there are lots of reasons not to get one (or more, as we are > gluttons for punishment). BUT! there are lots of Rescue dogs in need of > help. > I'm a member of STOLA and work with a Greyhound group in Phoenix, so I > know I > have literature aplenty. I should have brought it with me to the field > Sat, > but I was silly and didn't think about it. I am also a member of a > Perpetuation group, so I have some pretty specific advice for people who > want these > dogs -- I usually tell them to buy as many books as they can before they > even > think about buying one, and tell them all the negatives about Saluki > ownership > so as to make them aware of the negatives about sighthound ownership > before > they opt to take the plunge seriously. I did over 5 years of research > before > I even considered looking for my first Saluki. ------------------------ Yahoo!
