Well, after yet another Monday spent at the vet, I have finally come up with a
name for my pack: they are now known as the "Briog Bunch." (Briog is
pronounced 'broke' with a gutteral 'k' sound).

Let's see, this time it was to take 3 fosters on for spay and neuters; that was
expected. What was NOT expected was that when I got home and turned out my own
family dogs, that Lucinda and Courtney would get into it and Courtney would get
bitten in the neck, requiring many staples and another one of those 'Dog of
Frankenstein' drains.

It's my own fault. I have the bad habit of not muzzling everyone for turnouts.
I feel so guilty when I have to muzzle them, and now I feel even MORE guilty
for not muzzling them. I am also trying to train my DH to muzzle tham as well.
He has not been withness to the carnage, and therefore does not seem to think
it important. Like we have an extra $150.00 to give the vet...

At first, my assumption was that Sahara had bitten Courtney. After all, she is
a fear biter, and has a rep for biting - she's how Lucinda got to have that oh
so loverly 'dog of Frankenstein' drain in her back to start the month of Feb.
off with. But upon closer reflection of the actual event and all the dog's
reactions to it and to each other, it becae apparent that Lucinda did the dirty
deed to her sister.

Why did she bite her sister? Lucinda is going blind. She's getting very
farsighted. She can see things across the yard, but can't see anything close
up. I think Courtney must have gotten too close and startled her, and the bite
was the end result. I am trying to learn how to deal with a blind, or at least
partially blind dog. I suck at it.

On the other hand, Sahara is making daily strides in her fear biting and her
self-confidence and her ability to accept attention from me. Today she
actually let me touch and mess with her paws, repeatedly. I'm still not ready
to try trimming her nails, and I think I am going to have to get trained in
taking blood samples, and giving shots as I really don't see her being willing
to let just anyone do something she considers invasive. I'm not sure she will
ever be ready to be adopted by someone else, but at least I don't think she
deserves an death sentence - which is what had been strongly recommended to the
individual who sent her to me (from another rescue group who didn't have room
or time to work with her and far too many dogs for her to ever get comfortable
around). Thank doGness that she believed in Sahara as I do! She's a real
sweetie, and will probably become an official member of the pack RSN - when I
can convince DH that it's his idea that she stay....

We head off to Gulf Wars in about a week now, and I am thinking that Courtney
will have to stay home this time. Her staples aren't due to come out until the
14th, which is two days after I am supposed to be there, and with the staples
in, a collar is not something that she can wear comfortably - it can and will
get caught on the staples and may cause her further injury. So, I guess she
will be staying home.

It has been a good week for placing greyhounds. Beth, Dottie and Harry are all
now in forever homes, with Brian being the only holdout from the pick-up run on
the 20th. He will be going with me to Gulf Wars and may find a home while
there. I am looking at getting two more girls this weekend to foster. One
here and one at Bekki's (Beth's mom). The one here may go to Gulf Wars too,
since Courtney will be staying home. I'd like to be able to place both of them
while at Gulf Wars, and come home able to get more out. Bekki thinks she has a
few leads for forever homes as well, so maybe we will have another banner month
of adoptions!

Harry's new home is at Camp Ocala, the sight of most of Trimaris' Kingdom
events. His new mom, Sharon, is the camp director, and although not an SCA
member (yet) she does want to play with us when we are there. Harry will be
her excuse.... <VBG>.

The other news is that we got hit by an online scam and it has cost us big time
financially. We will survive, but just barely. I would highly recommend that
no one purchase anything from Video Professor online. I am not sure if it was
them that caused the problem or if someone hacked into their info base, but we
are out over $500.00. We will probably get some of it back from the bank, once
they are able to prove that it was a scam, but it is making life miserable just
now. Just a word of warning, as I do not want to see anyone else go thru this.

Well, that's the news from here. Hope all is well with you all.
