Greetings from the Midrealm Disaster Relief Team.
The Kingdom Seneschals of the Knowne World are putting together Hurricane
Katrina disaster relief teams in order to coordinate activities in their
various Kingdoms. To that extent, Countess Kenna (incoming Midrealm
Seneschal) is organizing relief efforts for the Middle Kingdom. She has
been and will continue to remain in contact with the Kingdom Seneschals of
Meridies and Gleann Abhann.
The Midrealm relief team will be collecting donations at the following
events:
09/10 Harvest Day [Yellow Springs, OH]
09/17 Rendezvous at the Bridge [Lincoln City, IN]
10/01 Coronation [Columbus, OH]
10/22 Crown Tournament [Ionia, MI]
The Gleann Abhann Relief Team expressed a need for "everything." However,
we're sure that there are people with needs in both Kingdoms. If you wish
to donate gift cards, please choose a national chain of vendors. If you
wish to donate goods, we suggest:
* bottled water
* non-perishable food items (such as):
infant formula & food
easy-prep foods (as cooking may be limited)
* basic first aid supplies
* personal hygiene products (such as):
toilet paper
toothbrushes
toothpaste
shampoo
soap
laundry soap
bleach
feminine hygiene products
diapers & wipes
deodorant
contact solution
shaving gear
brushes & combs
anti-bacterial gels
* kitchen ware (such as):
trash bags
can openers (for canned goods)
utensils
pots & pans
disposable dinnerware
sterno
paper towels
ziploc bags
* clothing (all ages and sizes) & shoes
new socks and undergarments
* bedding & towels
* candles & matches
* flashlights & batteries
* storage containers, overnight bags, etc.
* household cleaning supplies & gloves
Furthermore, we'd recommend against donating the following items:
* alcoholic beverages
* propane/gasoline/etc.
* perishable foods (such as milk, bread & eggs)
Both relief teams expressed the need for long-term housing and job leads,
wherever they may be located. It is our understanding that they will be
collecting this information for their members. If you have available
long-term and/or short-term housing and would be willing to assist, please
contact your regional coordinator (see below).
Any NON-SCA monetary donations will be passed along to sanctioned relief
organizations (the Chateau Teafort Foundation, the Red Cross, Catholic
Charities, Salvation Army, etc.), with the criteria that its to be used in
the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. Otherwise, all donated goods will be
collected and transported down to the affected areas. THL Bethany MacDonald
(contact info below) will coordinate the transport and temporary storage of
all collected items. She's in the process of arranging for free storage of
these items in Kokomo, Indiana, prior to transport South.
Future relief efforts will be organized as needed. We would like to arrange
work crews to assist with cleanup efforts and repairs at a future date.
Those interested in possible work crews, those with trailors, or those with
crash space or job leads should contact the regional coordinators with
information first. Our first (tentative) delivery of donated goods should
be Sunday, September 11th.
