This happens form time to time with amazon. Therefore we added new
timeout to role settings: "Terminate instance if cannot retrieve
it's status in X minutes". By default this timeout is 20 minutes. So,
if instance doesn't respond to scalr requests in 20 minutes it will be
terminated and new one will be launched instead old. You can change
this timeout at "Timeouts" tab for specified role on farm add/edit
page.
