[This message was sent to the School Board]
Greetings, Just an FYI . . . At the last school board meeting, the question came up as to whether school board members had to run for re-election if their elective district boundaries changed. In reviewing the Secretary of State's redistricting guide (http://www.sos.state.mn.us/redist/guide.html), it appears to me that board members are permitted to serve the remainder of their terms. It reads as follows: -------------- 5.7.5 How district boundary changes affect board members Board members shifted out of the election district they represent as a result of redrawing election district boundaries during redistricting, are not disqualified from serving for the remainder of the term for which they were elected. When running for office on the school board, a candidate must reside in the district for which they file for office. Except for shifts in election districts as the result of redistricting, each board member must be a resident of the election district that they represent.
