Peter: I remember this error is related to a misconfiguration of the proxy module in Apache.
In /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/proxy.conf maybe you have this block: <Proxy *> AddDefaultCharset off Order deny,allow Deny from all #Allow from .example.com </Proxy> If you're only testing things try adding: <Proxy *> AddDefaultCharset off Order deny,allow Deny from all Allow from all #Allow from .example.com </Proxy> And then restart Apache. If you want to set it up right, I suggest you read Apache's docs on the <Proxy> directive. Let us know if it works.
