My first post here, while I've been following this list with great
interest for over a year now ..

If this is only a few weeks work I really hope that the modularization
will be completed to a point where SchoolBell will benefit. SchoolBell
as a standalone product really has potential as there are relatively few
open source "calendaring servers that work". Actively maintaining
SchoolBell will be a positive encouragement to the ongoing development
of the Sunbird/Lightning project at mozilla.org.
I would feel much better about spending time and money on SchoolBell
if someone from the community would volunteer to step up and help
maintain it going forward.
There are points in time where I sorely regret not being more involved
where I think it's important. Now is such a time.
Hopefully someone in the right position will step up and take this
responsibility.
