The BBC isn't actively working on the code-bases anymore, since it's "out in
the wild". There's still some ongoing BBC work on professional VC-2/Dirac Pro
hardware, and that's making steady progress. To get adopted Dirac needs a
decent encoder and decoder, so 1.0.9 is a big step in the right direction.

Incidentally, you guys may not know that MPEG have started discussion on
whether to produce a royalty-free codec, and it seems quite likely that
something will come out of it (if only to stop the IETF stealing their
thunder). The most likely thing in the short term is to do some cut-down MPEG2
thing, but they still might make a new one as well or instead. What that might
be in technology terms will be TBD. Maybe Xiph should join one of the national
standards bodies and start tracking this stuff or even going to the odd MPEG
meeting. It's quite expensive to go to a meeting, but not very much to join a
NB (at least in the UK).

With H265/HVC due in 2013 there will also be big pressure on H264 business
models in the next few years. It could even be that the royalty-free baseline
issue gets reopened.

cheers

Thomas

There's still work going on with the schrödinger codebase, as you can see at
http://diracvideo.org/git

I agree it's unfortunate that diracvideo.org is missing its css, especially
since there are no navigation links.
