Please join us at the MIT Museum at 4:00 pm on Monday, October 1st, for a special event co-sponsored by the STS Program and the MIT Museum:

Collecting the Twentieth Century
Steven Lubar, Brown University

Abstract
Most history museums focus their collecting and exhibitions on the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Even museums with an interest in science and technology tend to ignore recent history, leaving that to science centers and, in a few cases, to hobbyists. My talk will explore the challenges of collecting and presenting recent history, suggesting the advantages that this new focus might offer for attracting new audience and providing perspective on both the past and the present.
