Dear friends and colleagues, It is my great pleasure to invite you to celebrate the opening and inaugural exhibit of the newly constructed MIT Libraries' Maihaugen Gallery on Friday, April 18, 2008, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. The Gallery is located adjacent to the Institute Archives and Special Collections, 14N-118, and was funded with the generous support of two donors to the Libraries. The celebration will begin at 1:00 p.m. with remarks by Ann Wolpert, director of the Libraries.
The Maihaugen Gallery will feature rotating exhibits drawn from the Libraries' collections. The opening exhibit, "A Celebration of Gifts," will feature many exciting and extraordinary items bestowed on the Libraries by donors past and present. To name just a few items, on display to the public for the first time ever will be works from the collection of MIT's founder, William Barton Rogers, original notebooks from Professor Harold "Doc" Edgerton, and a first edition of Walt Whitman's "Leaves of Grass." Although I unfortunately won't be able to attend, I hope you will be able to join my colleagues to celebrate this occasion. Light refreshments will be served. Please feel free to forward this invitation to any interested parties.
