Hm, "testing" does not only bring confidence; yet I (8.5.8-2 on ubuntu 
lucid 10.04) cannot help you with this one.

I have many dbases of various sizes (including a HUGE test dbase - with 
many dups - of over 16M games) and never saw this problem.
