I've been using Debian since 1994 and SCID since the first version. (on and off 
for both)
This is just not correct. And never has been. 
The buttons are not on the database tab. They are on the main window. 
Open the game list tab to scroll through that list. Open the pgn tab to move 
through the game.  You might even try the auto-move function.
