"Hideable" variations. Hidden variations are still there, but the UI would
offer a method of hiding a variation, replacing it, in the Notation window
UI, with a clickable marker that would "unhide" that variation when
clicked. This would be very convenient in my use case which involves
poring over complicated games over a considerable period of time. I have
seen a similar feature in various HTML and XML editors.

The simplest version of this would be non-persistent. Variation hides
would last only as long as the game is being edited. More useful, and MUCH
more complicated (I know, I'm a retired software developer) would be a
persistence mechanism for the hidden variations. It would probably have to
be a companion file to the pgn since such information would break the pgn
format.

Thanks for listening to what I know is a big ask, even the simple version.
And thanks for a great piece of software.
