If you look at the end of the log file you will see that you are using
pk fonts for figurines and board (these are bitmap fonts). Maybe this is
the source of your problem. 
If I recall correctly 'chess' is an very old package which is superseded
by the 'skak' package. I've also made type-1 versions of the skak fonts
(available on ctan:pub/tex/fonts/chess/skaknew) for using with skak.
Also take a look at the mighty packages 'chessboard' and 'chessfss' by
Ulrike Fischer and 'texmate2' by Federico Garcia.
To show you how simple a skak file can look I've 'converted' your
original source into skak notation (see the attachement).

BTW this would be the right time for a feature request to rewrite the
latex export in scid, scidnew or chessdb or whatever it's called ;-)
