Hi,

HT is Hash Tables. That means Crafty already calculated a branch, knows 
the position is for example +0.30 for that position down in the branch 
and does not need to go down any further in the branch another time. 
This is usually encountered in endings, where HT are the most useful.

I think (and my children's chess coach also :-) ) that a good way to 
train openings is to play 50 games of a particular line against an 
engine and see where you usually have to learn a bit more on that 
opening (for that you can use "tactical games" 
(http://prolinux.free.fr/scid/scid_newfeatures.html#playcoach) in Scid 
or in the upcoming version "serious game" : I hard coded the main 
opening lines in both modes, and you can force the engine to play them).
I tried to make an opening trainer close to what offers 
chesspositiontrainer 
(http://prolinux.free.fr/scid/scid_newfeatures.html#opTrainer) but is 
seems boring (at least for me) and it supposes you already have an 
opening repertoire (of course).
