Hi!

For the current version I installed also the player photos.
(They live in /opt/chess/share/scid for all users and are
then linked to the users .scid/ for scid to find them.
Format ist spf, ie. uncompressed).

Scid tells me upon startup that it finds the player photos,
even loads several files if there are, but I also tried with
a single one. But the images do not get displayed anywhere.
Neither in the information area nor in the player info.

Any clues what happens here?

BTW: does anybody probably know how to read the binary
ChessBase playerbase? Probably one could create a converter
for this to scid, as it is quite extensive. The image data
is jpg, size about right. Naming is 3 letters from the
players surname and then numbering. The latter needs some
index. Lots of players beeing doublett (I guess it is even
categorised by years somehow, so you get the suitable photo
of Kasparov for the year of the game in question). I never
saw this database in action as it seems to require CB9 which
uses such an ugly runtime, besides its exorbitant pricing.
So I do not have an idea how they do the indexing/mapping to
8.3 which factually reduced to a 5 digit key. (3 letters
lost already for say KAS and 3 others for the "JPG"
extension.) Any ideas? Probably someone knowing the
algorithm? I nearly can't imagine that they do the numbering
on an intellectual way, ie. someone sitting there and
hacking it into the db. Could be as well though.
