Hello,

Here are my first impressions about the site. I would like to act upon it,
but I need to read a bit.

----

Blurb. Always description or buttons. The description should be helpful :
it could even be the first part of Scid for the Impatient. If we don't have
anything to say except repeating what we have on the left pane, better make
the left pane the content of the page. Cf. Ruby on rails.

Scid Logo. One logo is enough on the page : Sourceforge's could be at
right, if it's not too asymetrical. I don't like the contrast between the
letters and the brownish board. Should be more transient : a bluish,
greyish board, maybe. It it were only me, it would be more White, more
Black, and more Red : the three first Black rules. (Why not the Icon ?)

Left menu. No need for division : the menu shows the main divisions of the
pages. (The Extra section is not logical.) No need for the home button
anymore -- we know it should be the Scid Logo. Donate should be replaced by
a Contribute page ; verify if it's good practice. Scidlet should be Engines
or something like Install information : this is Scid's site, not Scidlet's.
Links should be Resources, and the last button. Author should be the About
page ; that's where we talk about the contributors (memo, start with
http://scid.sourceforge.net/doc/thanks.txt). I don't know why there is a
privacy button : it should be in the Contribute page (where
http://scid.sourceforge.net/doc/progref.html should be promoted).

Screenshots. I like it. Images need update. They could be a bit
bigger.

Help -> Documentation. We don't provide undone pages anymore.

Google Ads. Sourceforge does not like that.

Up menu. Useless, if we have a left menu. The site has less than 20 pages
: we can live with one menu.

Baseline. If we like that, put more transient infos. Or real prog line,
like Apache does, with $$. Why linking to the SF index page ? (There are
forums there : either we clean them up, close them down, or contribute
there.)

Privacy Statement. No need for that on the menu, but on the Contribute
page, and on the Documentation page.

Mailing lists. One for Dev and one for Users is too much. A link pointing
to it on the www would be nice.

----

These ideas are very rough. But I think it's more honest to tell you about
where I am heading beforehand.

Bye,

B
