Ah. Maybe I missunderstood the UCI docs here. That is, in
UCI the book code is part of the GUI. I thought that there
is "only" an interface for the engine to access a central
book.

In the implementation this means that for scid I do not need
to have individual book builds for any xboard engine and
that a xboard engine is only switched on once the GUI is out
of book?

Ok. :) Therefore we're left with a dependency on Toga and
your patched version of Phalanx has to be there.

Would it be a good idea to try to get your patches also into
http://sourceforge.net/projects/phalanx ?
