Hi! Today I gave a short introduction to Scid by phone. The user converted from CB Light to Scid, so we had the problem to move his databases as well. Going via PGN Export did not pose a problem, but he did not find the import/export functions in Scid.
I wonder whether it makes sense to move these from the Tools menu to the file menu, which is probably a more common and logical place for import/export functions. Additionally, I recently had some "fun" with converting pgn (sort of) to Scid. To find the actual errors in the code I had quite often to copy&paste a single game via "Tools/Import one pgn game". A very handy function as it displays the error right a way and offers editing as well. As many of the games in question were not correctly formatted however, I wished Scid would highlight where the error occurs within the line, e.g. by a red background or whatever for the move in question. (These games were transcripts, so most of the bugs were of the type "23.h4 h7,24.g4Kd1".) Another point is "working on PGN". Scid can open PGN just fine, I can do everything with the PGN games, change and so on, except saving them. Would it be better to open a pgn by actually importing it into a temporary scid base, then work on it and instead of "close" write out the PGN again if a game has changed? That way one could work on PGN like on normal bases. Finally, a thing that keeps confusing me but I always forget to report here. ;) Shouldn't the PGN and main window be reset to the starting position if a base is closed? Currently, both hold the last game that was opened. One can edit and play around with it like with any game, but once one wants to store the game, it is not possible anymore of course. I know this behaviour for quite some time now, but it still confuses me if it occurs. -- Kind regards, Alexander Wagner ------------------------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the Moblin Your Move Developer's challenge Build the coolest Linux based applications with Moblin SDK & win great prizes Grand prize is a trip for two to an Open Source event anywhere in the world http://moblin-contest.org/redirect.php?banner_id=100&url=/ _______________________________________________ Scid-users mailing list Scid-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/scid-users
