The reference base tree was yielding obviously incorrect, even impossible moves, and once I had an additional white king blip onto e7 out of nowhere. Switching to the version you provide with the embedded frameworks, I didn't see any of that monkey business.
I'm of the opinion that Tcl/TK on my computer is haunted by some kind of jokester spirit.
