Exactly. Plus: to the best of my knowledge there is no adaptor for the 
other way round, ie. to improve an xboard engine to a UCI one.

I fear you're not mistaken. Playing a game against Crafty is actually 
not possible. Neither a serious nor a tactical game.

Fernando, is there a special feature in crafty why you want to use this 
engine explicitly or could we find a solution using an UCI engine of 
equivalent features?
