LaTeX of course. (Is there any other way to set high quality chess 
diagrams? ;)

It could be enough to just use smaller bitmaps for the pieces. Didn't 
investigate this in HTML yet. In case I could easily create a set of 
smaller pieces. What size do you think is resonable?
