You are correct. There is some preliminary try in the code provided by 
Israel, but there is a very strange error I currently blame on Tcl: once 
you say "Save image" you get a popup box that covers the main window and 
this box results, in a black rectangle in your screenshot. We invested 
quite some work to fix this but it didn't work out yet nor did we find 
any working example on the net.

Well, there're some tools on the web that allow you to paste FEN 
notation to get a board displayed. E.g.

http://webchess.freehostia.com/diag/index.php?lang=english

You could tweak the URL a bit and come up eg. with something like

http://webchess.freehostia.com/diag/chessdiag.php?theme=smart&size=large&fen=

where you just have to add the FEN at the end. Using Firefox' keyword 
function you could create a bookmark for this copy position from Scid 
and enter something like

fen <shift-ins>

into the toolbar.
