Some time ago, talking with Ben, I said I did not want to accept donations with the sourceforge method (a "donate" link is added on the site and the money goes into a paypal account decided by the administrators)
I'd like instead to create a system to directly finance the contributions and encourage more people to contribute to the program. A few examples to explain my idea: - A programmer could improve the fics module to better follow the games live and take advantage of the opportunity to use the tree to check the openings or an engine to analyze variations - A designer could create a particular set of pieces, perhaps for teaching children (super-heroes, Disney characters, etc ...) - A writer could write an e-book manual on how to use the program - A chess master could record a video on how to prepare against an opponent or how to use scid to study for example the Sicilian. All these things take time, but I am convinced that there are several people who would be willing to implement them if payed. For example, suppose that we could use kickstarter: the designer wants $ 200 for drawing a particular set of pieces and the writer $ 400. You can open two projects and see if users are interested in that particular feature: maybe a chess teacher is more interested in features for children or to have an updated documentation, while a strong player prefers a faster search and better features for analysis. In this way, each user can decide whether and how much he wants to invest to develop some features of the program and the contributors would be more incentive to create new functions. The code and the new features would still be open source and would benefit the entire community. I hope I was able to explain the idea, especially since I used google translate: what do you think? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This SF.net email is sponsored by Windows: Build for Windows Store. http://p.sf.net/sfu/windows-dev2dev _______________________________________________ Scid-users mailing list Scid-users@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/scid-users
