The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology at the Faculty for Medicine Mannheim of the University of Heidelberg is offering positions for highly motivated PhD students. The Department of Prof. Michael Boutros has been founded in Fall 2008 and works in close collaboration with the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). The aim of our research is to uncover and characterize signaling pathways that are involved in the development of organisms and human diseases. We are using modern genomic, genetic, molecular and imaging techniques to analyze signaling processes in human cells as well as model organisms such as Zebrafish, Drosophila and planaria. Job Description: The PhD student has the opportunity to choose among a variety of projects ranging from the analysis of the Wnt signaling cascade and its role in vertebrate brain development and invertebrate regeneration processes to regulation of cell polarity and proliferation in Drosophila. Your Qualifications: 
Master or diploma in biology or a related subject, motivated, team spirit. Background in developmental biology and practical experience with molecular and cell biology is desirable. 
We offer: newly refurbished labs, which are equipped with state of the art facilities. These includes in vivo and ex vivo RNAi screening and a newly established fish facility. Furthermore our close connection to the DKFZ allows us to use additional core facilities. Positions are available in the Departments research groups (Kerstin Bartscherer, Matthias Carl, Veit Riechmann, Michael Boutros).
