Attention Chicago Area Educators:

Would you like to expand your repertoire of dynamic, hands-on classroom
activities? Are you looking for thought provoking, real-world data to use
in your classes? Do you want to learn more about population and
environmental issues -- including information relevant to the new AP Human
Geography course? Are you interested in peer leadership opportunities?

If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, please read on for
information on an exciting
training opportunity coming soon to your area

The Teachers' PET Project will be conducting a population education
facilitator training on Saturday and Sunday, May 19 and 20, 2001 in
Chicago. Thanks to generous foundation support, we are very pleased to be
able to offer this training free of charge. We have offered CEU and CPDU
credits at previous regional training institutes and we anticipate that
renewal credits will be available at the May training as well.

The training will bring a select group of educators who are interested in
joining the network of population education trainers (we call it the
PETNet) together for a productive weekend of training and preparation for
conducting population education workshops for their colleagues at schools,
universities, and conferences around the region.

The training will include skill-building in presenting hands-on activities,
getting help in answering challenging questions, finding workshop
opportunities, and developing effective workshop agendas, as well as
sharing ideas and experiences with outstanding colleagues. The learning
sessions and materials will give participants confidence in embarking on
teacher training in their area. Participants will receive an extensive
handbook of training materials and the brand new edition of our
award-winning "dot" video, World Population.

Space is very limited, and slots for our facilitator trainings fill up
quickly. If you would like to participate, please contact:
